Azam Khan, a batter and wicketkeeper for Pakistan, is competing in the Caribbean Premier League in 2024. He isn’t having the best times in the T20 competition right now.
The Guyana Amazon Warriors’ hitter, who hasn’t scored many runs in the league, was part of an odd expulsion on Friday. Azam batted fifth for the Warriors against the Antigua & Barbuda Falcons when he arrived at the crease.
In the final seven balls, he could only muster five runs. Following an early battle, he attempted to regain momentum by hitting a four against Shamar Springer.
But on the very next delivery, the bowlers answered with a bouncer. Azam attempted to draw the delivery towards his leg, but he completely missed making touch with the ball.
Instead, the ball hit him squarely in the neck, causing him to lose equilibrium and fall to the ground. His innings ended when his bat struck the stumps after the bouncer bounced him at the crease.
Holding his neck, Azam collapsed to the ground while the opposing team checked on him. He also needed to be examined on the pitch by the team’s physiotherapist.
With just one four under his belt, he made a run-a-ball nine and returned to the field. After he was dismissed, the Warriors chased 169 runs at 77/4 in the 12th over.
The Guyana side pulled off a robbery to win the match on the final ball, and the game went down to the wire. Dwaine Pretorius and Romario Shephard’s cameos assisted the club in reaching the 169-run goal.
Azam Khan has been the target of intense criticism due to his lack of output for the Pakistani side. His weight and fitness level drew harsh criticism, with many believing they fell short of international standards.
He performed admirably for Islamabad United during their PSL 2024 title campaign. He was then added to Pakistan’s squad for the T20 World Cup and their match against England.
He was not given any consideration for selection after the team’s early elimination from the T20 World Cup 2024 in June due to his lack of success at bat.
