New Zealand Cricket announced in a press statement on Tuesday (October 22) that former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson will miss the second Test match against India in Pune.
Williamson was recuperating from his injury during the Test series against Sri Lanka. Therefore, he could not play in the first Test match in Bengaluru.
He stayed in New Zealand to continue working on his recovery and will keep doing so as he gets closer to being fully fit. New Zealand’s head coach, Gary Stead, hopes Williamson will play in the third Test.
“We’re monitoring Kane, and he’s tracking in the right direction but isn’t yet 100% fit,” stated Stead. Over the next few days, we hope to see much more progress and have him ready for the third Test. We will allow him as much time as possible to prepare, but we will undoubtedly be cautious.”
A 36-year wait for a Test victory in India ended when New Zealand won the first Test by eight wickets. The third and final Test will begin on November 1 in Mumbai, while the second starts on October 24.
