According to the BCB, Bangladesh’s captain for the three ODI matches against Afghanistan in Sharjah next week is Najmul Hossain Shanto.
The announcement comes after Shanto told the board that he was reluctant to continue as Bangladesh’s all-format captain, and he had a conversation with BCB president Faruque Ahmed Thursday night following the Chattogram Test.
Bangladesh will play two Test matches, three ODIs, and three T20Is during the West Indies tour later in November, but the BCB still needs to reveal the teams.
Taskin Ahmed and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who was appointed Shanto’s deputy for the Afghanistan series, are “front-runners” in the BCB’s captaincy debate, Faruque told the media on Thursday.
The Bangladesh ODI team includes all three. The team’s sole uncapped player is 22-year-old tearaway fast Nahid Rana. In his five Test matches thus far, Rana has impressed with his bounce and velocity. In ten List-A games, he has claimed 26 wickets at a rate of 16.46.
The selectors have also called up Nasum Ahmed, a left-arm spinner, and opener Zakir Hasan. In addition to playing 12 Test matches last year, the left-handed Zakir only participated in one ODI. In the meantime, Nasum participated in the World Cup in India last year, playing the final of his 15 ODIs.
Hasan Mahmud, Taijul Islam, and Anamul Haque had no place. Mahmud is not playing due to a shoulder injury he sustained during the National Cricket League.
Shakib Al Hasan, who Faruque said unilaterally withdrew from consideration for this ODI series, is also out for Bangladesh. Due to sickness, Litton Das could not participate in the Chattogram Test against South Africa and is missing.
The three ODIs will be played at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on November 6, 9, and 11 by the Bangladeshi side, leaving for Dubai in two groups on Saturday and Sunday.
