After choosing to bat, South Africa amassed 166-5, with Laura Wolvaardt, Tazmin Brits, and Marizanne Kapp all falling just short of half-centuries.
South Africa advanced to the top of Group B and increased their net run rate, which enhanced their hopes of qualifying. At the same time, Scotland was eliminated from the tournament following losses by Bangladesh and the West Indies.
Wolvaardt (40) and Britz (64), the opening batsmen for South Africa, put up 64 before the former trapped Katherine Fraser in the hands of Olivia Bell in the eighth over.
While Scotland had to wait until the fifteenth over for opener Brits to be dismissed on 43 by Bell, Anneke Bosch fell for 11.
South Africa appeared out of sight with Kapp’s 43 off 24 balls, but captain Katheryn Bryce removed the dangerous all-rounder.
After a few late boundaries from Sune Luus secured a formidable target, Scotland’s pursuit was quickly overshadowed by the trio of Sarah Bryce, Saskia Horley, and Kathryn Bryce, who all scored single figures on the powerplay.
Nonkululeko Mlaba bowled Ailsa Lister for 12 runs, causing a middle-order collapse that left them at 67-8.
Fraser led Scotland’s scoring with 14 from 21 deliveries, offering some resistance, but Scotland was far from victorious.
