Senior West Indies players Nicholas Pooran, Andre Russell, Akeal Hosein, and Shimron Hetmyer have chosen not to travel with the T20I team to Sri Lanka for personal reasons.
Evin Lewis, meanwhile, makes his T20I comeback after competing for the West Indies in the 2022 T20 World Cup. The group includes Brandon King, who has been sidelined for some time owing to an injury, and all-rounders Terrance Hinds and Shamar Springer, who have been called up for the first time.
Alzarri Joseph, who was rested for the West Indies’ most recent T20I series against South Africa, is also a member of the T20I squad. Conversely, Jason Holder is still out because he was rested for the T20Is in South Africa. The T20I team will still be led by Rovman Powell, with Roston Chase serving as his deputy.
Head coach Daren Sammy stated the following regarding the T20I squad: “With several senior players out for various reasons, including rest and injury rehabilitation, the tour of Sri Lanka gives us a chance to test our depth and assess players in different situations.” We have faith that the team can compete fiercely with Sri Lanka.”
The 17-year-old Antiguan wicketkeeper-batter Jewel Andrew has been added to the ODI team. The team, which Shai Hope will captain, also includes players like Sherfane Rutherford and Brandon King. Alzarri will serve as vice-captain.
“This tour provides an invaluable chance to assess tactics and provide opportunities to budding talent as we continue to develop our ODI team. Young players like Jewel Andrew, who has proven to be a promising potential for the future, excite us,” Sammy remarked.
The T20I portion of the West Indies’ trip to Sri Lanka will occur on October 13, 15, and 17 in Dambulla. The three-match series will follow. The October 20, 23, and 26 ODIs are scheduled in Pallekele.
