After reversing her international retirement, Deandra Dottin was included in the West Indies squad for the next T20 World Cup. This announcement was made one month ago. Remarkably, Dottin—who scored the fastest century in women’s T20Is—resigned from the international game in 2022, expressing dissatisfaction with the team dynamic.
The Hayley Matthews-led team has made four changes overall from their June 2-1 T20I series victory in Sri Lanka. In addition to Dottin, Ashmini Munisar, Mandy Mangru, and the uncapped Nerissa Crafton are welcomed to the team. Those included in the Sri Lankan squad but left off the World Cup roster include Kate Wilmott, Cherry Ann-Fraser, Rashada Williams, and Shabika Gajnabi.
The West Indies T20 World Cup team consists of the following players: Ashmini Munisar, Chinelle Henry, Deandra Dottin, Karishma Ramharack, Mandy Mangru, Nerissa Crafton, Qiana Joseph, Shamilia Connell, Stafanie Taylor, Hayley Matthews (captain).
Following the announcement, CWI President Kishore Shallow remarked, “We have a nice mix of youth and experience.” We have a few athletes who are almost 19 years old; Zaida James is still likely an adolescent, as are one or two younger players. I’m pleased with the combination.
“I believe that the return of Deandra Dottin excites all West Indians. We have been in contact with Deandra for a year now, both ways. I would especially like to acknowledge Ann Browne-John’s contribution, as she has spearheaded these discussions even though she wasn’t the official selector. Her contribution to Deandra’s retirement was crucial.”
The 2016 winners are grouped with South Africa, Bangladesh, England, and Scotland in Group B. On October 4, they kick up their campaign against South Africa in Dubai.
